Experts OnDemand: Orthotic Management of Stroke

Description

This course will provide treatment options based on the specific condition of cerebrovascular accident, commonly known as a stroke. Each stroke patient will present with a unique set of functional deficits. This course will cover treatment options based on the functional deficits commonly seen in stroke patients. Some patients will need lower extremity treatments, some patients will require upper extremity treatments, and some will require both. The treatment options presented in this course will help patients maintain or regain their mobility.

Objectives

After successfully completing this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Gain better understanding of what a stroke is and what functional deficits may occur as a result of a stroke and how to treat those functional deficits.
  • Course participants will be able to distinguish between stance control only and stance and swing phase control orthoses and determine when each type is needed.
  • Understanding of the importance of the upper extremity during gait and the ability to provide support to upper extremity to achieve improved gait characteristics.

Instructor

Ted Friedmann, CO

Ted received his advanced specialty diploma in Orthotics from Century Community College in White bear lake Minnesota and his Bachelors in Manufacturing Technology from the University of Northern Iowa. Ted has been a certified clinical orthotist since 2005. He practiced for 8 years at Chladek O and P and 3 years at Hanger clinic in Des Moines, Iowa. He now is traveling the country supporting our customers for all their orthotic needs.
